Det vides dog, at eksponeringen hovedsageligt forekommer i brancher, der besk\u00e6ftiger sig med produktion og forarbejdning af siliciumkarbid samt anvendelse af materialer, der indeholder siliciumkarbid. <\/p>\n<p>Arbejdsrelateret eksponering sker hovedsageligt gennem ind\u00e5nding af luftb\u00e5rne fibre, der dannes under industrielle processer s\u00e5som ovndrift, knusning, formaling eller bearbejdning. Disse fibre er meget sm\u00e5 og kan forblive sv\u00e6vende i luften, hvilket g\u00f8r det let at ind\u00e5nde dem. <\/p>\n<p>Siliciumkarbidfibre er i henhold til CLP-forordningen klassificeret som carcinogen i kategori 1B (kan for\u00e5rsage kr\u00e6ft hos mennesker ved ind\u00e5nding). Det carcinogene potentiale h\u00e6nger hovedsageligt sammen med fibrenes form, st\u00f8rrelse og hvor l\u00e6nge de forbliver i lungerne. <\/p>\n<p>Uds\u00e6ttelse for siliciumkarbidfibre kan medf\u00f8re alvorlige sundhedsm\u00e6ssige konsekvenser. Den hyppigst forekommende kr\u00e6ftform blandt arbejderne er lungekr\u00e6ft, og der er ogs\u00e5 bekymring for mesoteliom. <\/p>\n<h2>Hvor risici opst\u00e5r<\/h2>\n<p>Erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering for siliciumkarbidfibre forekommer hovedsageligt i sektorer, hvor siliciumkarbid fremstilles eller anvendes, herunder inden for fremstilling af ikke-metalliske mineraler, ildfaste produkter, tekniske keramiske produkter, metalforarbejdning, maskinproduktion og transportudstyr.<\/p>\n<p>De erhverv, der er mest udsat for eksponering, omfatter operat\u00f8rer af ovne, knusnings-, formaling- eller procesanl\u00e6g, produktionsarbejdere, vedligeholdelsesarbejdere, maskinarbejdere, metalslibere og -polerere samt arbejdere, der h\u00e5ndterer kompositmaterialer. Disse arbejdere kan v\u00e6re udsat for samtidig eksponering for andre carcinogener, s\u00e5som <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/indhalerbar-krystallinsk-silica\/\">krystallinsk silica<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/polycykliske-aromatiske-kulbrinter-paher\/\">polycykliske aromatiske kulbrinter (PAH&#8217;er)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/udstoedning-fra-dieselmotorer-dee\/\">dieseludst\u00f8dning<\/a>, metaller som hexavalent <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/chrom-vi-forbindelser\/\">krom<\/a> eller <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/nikkelforbindelser\/\">nikkel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/asbest\/\">asbest<\/a> eller <a href=\"https:\/\/stopcarcinogensatwork.eu\/da\/fact\/svejseroeg\/\">svejser\u00f8g<\/a>. Arbejdere kan blive udsat for eksponering i flere faser af produktionen og h\u00e5ndteringen. St\u00f8vintensive arbejdsopgaver kan ogs\u00e5 forurene t\u00f8jet og f\u00f8re til indirekte eksponering.   <\/p>\n<p>Der er ogs\u00e5 stor sandsynlighed for, at man uds\u00e6ttes for siliciumkarbidfibre i produktionen af motork\u00f8ret\u00f8jer og i bygge- og anl\u00e6gsvirksomheden (f.eks. operat\u00f8rer af sandbl\u00e6sningsanl\u00e6g).<\/p>\n<h2>Mere om stoffet<\/h2>\n<p>Siliciumkarbidfibre er faste, uorganiske fibre, der best\u00e5r af silicium og kulstof. De er ekstremt h\u00e5rde, kemisk stabile og uopl\u00f8selige i vand, og de kan spredes i luften som st\u00f8v og fibre under h\u00e5ndtering og forarbejdning. <\/p>\n<p>De kan opst\u00e5 utilsigtet under fremstillingen eller fremstilles bevidst som whiskers til specielle form\u00e5l.<\/p>\n<p>Fibrenes st\u00f8rrelse og form er afg\u00f8rende for sundhedsrisikoen. Siliciumkarbidfibre har typisk en diameter p\u00e5 under 3 mikrometer og en l\u00e6ngde p\u00e5 over 5 mikrometer. P\u00e5 grund af deres lille st\u00f8rrelse, der ligner asbestfibre, kan de n\u00e5 de dybeste dele af lungerne, n\u00e5r de ind\u00e5ndes, og kan forblive der i lange perioder og udskilles ikke let fra kroppen.  <\/p>\n<p>Siliciumkarbidfibre anvendes hovedsageligt i h\u00f8jtydende kompositmaterialer, hvor der stilles krav om h\u00f8j styrke, lav v\u00e6gt og modstandsdygtighed over for ekstreme temperaturer, f.eks. i fly- og rumfartsmotorer, rumfart\u00f8jer, forsvarsanvendelser, industrielt h\u00f8jtemperaturudstyr og andre avancerede tekniske sektorer.<\/p>\n<h2>Sundhedsrisici, der kan opst\u00e5<\/h2>\n<p>Den prim\u00e6re eksponeringsvej for siliciumkarbidfibre er ind\u00e5nding.<\/p>\n<p>Kortvarig eksponering kan for\u00e5rsage irritation og bet\u00e6ndelse i luftvejene.<\/p>\n<p>Langvarig eksponering kan for\u00e5rsage lungekr\u00e6ft og muligvis mesoteliom. Andre alvorlige ikke-kr\u00e6ftrelaterede virkninger omfatter pneumokoniose og kronisk lungesygdom, som kan neds\u00e6tte lungefunktionen og for\u00e5rsage \u00e5ndedr\u00e6tsbesv\u00e6r. Alle disse sygdomme har ofte lange latenstider, typisk flere \u00e5rtier mellem eksponeringen og sygdommens udbrud.  <\/p>\n<h2>Hvad du kan g\u00f8re<\/h2>\n<p>Der b\u00f8r s\u00e5 vidt muligt overvejes at erstatte siliciumkarbidfibre med sikrere alternativer eller processer. Til visse anvendelser (f.eks. komponenter til termisk beskyttelse, varmeskjolde eller varmgaskanaler) er der foresl\u00e5et oxidkeramiske fibre eller kontinuerlige kulstoffibre som erstatning. <\/p>\n<p>P\u00e5 grund af siliciumkarbidfibrenes egenskaber b\u00f8r hovedfokus i risikostyringen ligge p\u00e5 at begr\u00e6nse frigivelsen af fibre i luften og forhindre ind\u00e5nding, snarere end p\u00e5 at kontrollere dampe eller v\u00e6sker. Effektiv ventilation (generel eller lokal udsugning), st\u00f8vbek\u00e6mpelse og indd\u00e6mning er derfor afg\u00f8rende foranstaltninger p\u00e5 arbejdspladser, hvor der h\u00e5ndteres siliciumkarbidfibre. Organisatoriske foranstaltninger b\u00f8r omfatte uddannelse af de ansatte, begr\u00e6nsning af eksponeringstiden, regelm\u00e6ssig reng\u00f8ring og overv\u00e5gning af eksponeringen.  <\/p>\n<p>Arbejderne b\u00f8r overholde god hygiejnepraksis og anvende personlig beskyttelse (f.eks. \u00e5ndedr\u00e6tsv\u00e6rn) som en sidste udvej, n\u00e5r det er n\u00f8dvendigt, og efter at eventuelle tekniske og organisatoriske l\u00f8sninger er blevet indf\u00f8rt. I nogle tilf\u00e6lde er det dog n\u00f8dvendigt at beskytte arbejdstagernes luftveje mod ind\u00e5nding af siliciumcarbidfibre, f.eks. ved indgreb i ovne eller processer eller ved bearbejdning\/slibning af kompositmaterialer, der genererer respirabelt st\u00f8v indeholdende fibre. Arbejdsgivere skal sikre, at \u00e5ndedr\u00e6ttet ikke udg\u00f8r en yderligere fysisk belastning (f.eks. ved brug af motordrevne luftrensende \u00e5ndedr\u00e6tsv\u00e6rn).
