Da stoffet kan tr\u00e6nge ind gennem huden, er b\u00e5de ind\u00e5nding og hudkontakt relevante eksponeringsveje.<br \/>\nStoffet er i henhold til EU&#8217;s CLP-forordning klassificeret som et formodet humant carcinogen (kategori 1B). <\/p>\n<h2>Hvor risici opst\u00e5r<\/h2>\n<p>Erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering for pyrocatechol forekommer hovedsageligt inden for kemisk og farmaceutisk produktion, ved teknisk afpr\u00f8vning og analyse samt i visse efterf\u00f8lgende industrigrene, s\u00e5som overfladebehandling, elektronik, gummi og plast samt fremstilling af maskiner til produktion af plast og gummi.<br \/>\nDe faggrupper, der har den st\u00f8rste risiko for at blive udsat for pyrocatechol, omfatter procesoperat\u00f8rer, destillations-, blandings- og tankanl\u00e6goperat\u00f8rer samt vedligeholdelsesarbejdere, laboratorieteknikere og analytiske kemikere. Arbejdere inden for galvanisering samt arbejdere, der besk\u00e6ftiger sig med overfladebehandling og elektronikproduktion, kan ligeledes blive udsat for stoffet.<br \/>\nEksponering er mest sandsynlig under aktiviteter, hvor stoffet h\u00e5ndteres i \u00e5bne systemer, eller hvor indkapslingen ikke er fuldt effektiv, f.eks. ved blandings- eller sammenblandingsopgaver, ved dyppning, bel\u00e6gning eller i overfladebehandlingsprocesser. Yderligere eksponering kan forekomme under vedligeholdelses- og reng\u00f8ringsopgaver.  <\/p>\n<h2>Mere om stoffet<\/h2>\n<p>Pyrocatechol er et fast stof ved stuetemperatur og forekommer typisk som et hvidt til brunt krystallinsk fast stof, der kan blive m\u00f8rkere ved uds\u00e6ttelse for luft. Pyrocatechol opl\u00f8ses meget let i vand og i mange organiske opl\u00f8sningsmidler. <\/p>\n<p>Pyrocatechol er ikke s\u00e6rligt brandfarligt eller eksplosivt under normale forhold. Det kan dog danne st\u00f8v, n\u00e5r det h\u00e5ndteres i fast form, og kan danne aerosoler eller dampe, n\u00e5r det opvarmes i forbindelse med industrielle processer eller anvendes i flydende form. <\/p>\n<p>Det anvendes hovedsageligt som mellemprodukt i fremstillingen af andre stoffer og produkter. De st\u00f8rste kategorier af slutprodukter, hvor pyrocatechol anvendes, omfatter landbrugskemikalier (plantebeskyttelsesmidler), smags- og duftstoffer (f.eks. vanillin, duftprodukter til husholdningsbrug), l\u00e6gemidler samt gummi-\/polymeradditiver til plast, d\u00e6k og gummiprodukter. <\/p>\n<h2>Sundhedsrisici, der kan opst\u00e5<\/h2>\n<p>Man kan blive udsat for pyrocatechol ved ind\u00e5nding af st\u00f8v eller dampe samt ved hudkontakt.<br \/>\nKortvarig eksponering kan f\u00f8re til symptomer som hoste, irritation i halsen, \u00f8jenirritation samt r\u00f8dme eller ubehag i huden. Meget h\u00f8j eksponering (f.eks. ved indtagelse) kan medf\u00f8re mere alvorlige toksiske virkninger. Det kan ogs\u00e5 for\u00e5rsage allergiske hudreaktioner efter gentagen eksponering.<br \/>\nLangvarig eksponering kan f\u00f8re til mere alvorlige sundhedsm\u00e6ssige virkninger, herunder \u00f8get risiko for kr\u00e6ft, depigmentering af huden, kronisk dermatitis og virkninger p\u00e5 luftvejene.  <\/p>\n<h2>Hvad du kan g\u00f8re<\/h2>\n<p>Erstatning b\u00f8r betragtes som den prim\u00e6re l\u00f8sning. Hvor det er muligt, b\u00f8r pyrocatechol erstattes med mindre farlige stoffer eller alternative processer, der mindsker eksponeringen. Mulige erstatninger for pyrocatechol (catechol) afh\u00e6nger af stoffets anvendelse: hydroquinon, resorcinol og pyrogallol kan erstatte det i visse lignende kemiske eller redox-anvendelser; gallussyre eller garvesyre kan anvendes til metalchelatering; og ascorbinsyre eller natriumborhydrid kan i nogle tilf\u00e6lde erstatte pyrocatechol som reduktionsmidler. Det bedste alternativ afh\u00e6nger af den specifikke anvendelse, da disse forbindelser har forskellig reaktivitet.   <\/p>\n<p>Tekniske foranstaltninger er afg\u00f8rende, n\u00e5r det ikke er muligt at erstatte stoffet. Disse omfatter anvendelse af lukkede systemer og automatisering, lokal udsugning ved udslipspunkter samt effektiv generel ventilation. Disse foranstaltninger bidrager til at reducere koncentrationerne af dampe og st\u00f8v i luften.<br \/>\nOrganisatoriske foranstaltninger omfatter begr\u00e6nsning af eksponeringens varighed, uddannelse af arbejderne (f.eks. om risici ved hudeksponering), indf\u00f8relse af sikre h\u00e5ndteringsprocedurer samt sikring af passende reng\u00f8ringsmetoder, der minimerer st\u00f8vdannelse. Det anbefales at foretage regelm\u00e6ssig overv\u00e5gning af eksponeringsniveauerne.   <\/p>\n<p>Personlig beskyttelse b\u00f8r anvendes som sidste forsvarslinje. Der b\u00f8r l\u00e6gges s\u00e6rlig v\u00e6gt p\u00e5 at undg\u00e5 hudkontakt, da stoffet kan optages gennem huden.
