Metallisk nikkel er klassificeret af IARC som Carcinogen gruppe 2B, muligvis kr\u00e6ftfremkaldende for mennesker. Eksponering sker ved ind\u00e5nding, indtagelse eller hudkontakt. Derudover opst\u00e5r der hudlidelser og luftvejseffekter efter eksponering for nikkel og nikkelforbindelser. Der er en \u00f8get risiko for lunge- og n\u00e6sekr\u00e6ft ved uds\u00e6ttelse for nikkelraffinaderist\u00f8v og nikkelsubsulfid.    <\/p>\n<h2>Hvor risici opst\u00e5r<\/h2>\n<p>Nikkel, i form af forskellige legeringer og forbindelser, har v\u00e6ret i udbredt kommerciel brug i over 100 \u00e5r. Nikkelforbindelser og metallisk nikkel har mange industrielle og kommercielle anvendelser, herunder brug i rustfrit st\u00e5l og andre nikkellegeringer, katalysatorer, batterier, pigmenter og keramik. De fleste arbejdere, der uds\u00e6ttes for nikkel og nikkelforbindelser i EU, er besk\u00e6ftiget med fremstilling af forarbejdede metalprodukter, fremstilling af maskiner undtagen elektriske og fremstilling af transportudstyr. Erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering er almindelig for arbejdere, der er involveret i smeltning, svejsning, st\u00f8bning, spr\u00f8jtemaling og slibning af nikkel, nikkelforbindelser og nikkelholdige materialer.   <\/p>\n<h2>Mere om stoffet<\/h2>\n<p>Nikkel er et s\u00f8lvhvidt metallisk grundstof, der findes i jordskorpen. Stoffet forekommer naturligt i milj\u00f8et i lave niveauer. Nikkel kan kombineres med andre grundstoffer for at danne nikkelforbindelser. P\u00e5 grund af sine unikke egenskaber har nikkel mange industrielle anvendelser. Det meste nikkel bruges i metallegeringer, fordi det giver nyttige egenskaber som f.eks. korrosionsbestandighed, varmebestandighed og h\u00e5rdhed.   <\/p>\n<h2>Farer, der kan opst\u00e5<\/h2>\n<p>Erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering for nikkel sker hovedsageligt ved ind\u00e5nding af st\u00f8vpartikler og dampe eller ved hudkontakt. Akut uds\u00e6ttelse for h\u00f8je niveauer af nikkel ved ind\u00e5nding kan for\u00e5rsage alvorlige skader p\u00e5 lunger og nyrer. Langvarig uds\u00e6ttelse for nikkelraffinaderist\u00f8v f\u00f8rer til en \u00f8get risiko for lunge- og n\u00e6sekr\u00e6ft blandt arbejdere p\u00e5 nikkelraffinaderier. Kronisk eksponering af huden for nikkel kan f\u00f8re til dermatitis med klager som t\u00f8r, irriteret eller kl\u00f8ende hud. Kronisk ind\u00e5nding af metallisk nikkel og vanduopl\u00f8selige nikkelforbindelser kan resultere i luftvejseffekter, herunder nedsat lungefunktion og bronkitis. Kronisk ind\u00e5nding af opl\u00f8selige nikkelforbindelser kan resultere i astma.     <\/p>\n<p><strong>Tiden mellem nikkeleksponering og kr\u00e6ftsymptomer varierer fra 13 til 24 \u00e5r.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Hvad du kan g\u00f8re<\/h2>\n<p>Den mest effektive m\u00e5de at forhindre eksponering p\u00e5 er at erstatte med nikkelfrie produkter eller produkter med lavere nikkelindhold. Hvis nikkelholdige produkter ikke kan erstattes, skal eksponeringen for nikkel reduceres ved hj\u00e6lp af teknisk kontrol. Udf\u00f8r l\u00f8bende korrekte eksponeringsm\u00e5linger, s\u00e5 man ved, hvorn\u00e5r der skal gribes ind. Unders\u00f8g, om arbejderne rapporterer tidlige symptomer. G\u00f8r l\u00f8bende arbejderne opm\u00e6rksomme p\u00e5 eksponeringens virkninger. Uddan desuden arbejderne i farer, sikker arbejdspraksis og effektive hygiejneforanstaltninger. Suppler dette med personlig beskyttelse, hvis de mulige kontrolforanstaltninger ikke er tilstr\u00e6kkelige til at reducere eksponeringen til under gr\u00e6nsev\u00e6rdierne.      <\/p>\n<p>Personlig beskyttelse b\u00f8r kun bruges som en sidste udvej, efter at de mulige tekniske l\u00f8sninger er blevet pr\u00e6senteret. Da metallisk nikkel og nogle nikkelforbindelser kan for\u00e5rsage hudsensibilisering, b\u00f8r hudkontakt forhindres s\u00e5 meget som muligt.
