Uds\u00e6ttelse for farlige niveauer af cadmium kan forekomme i job, hvor arbejdere uds\u00e6ttes for cadmiest\u00f8v eller -dampe. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Arbejdere kan blive udsat for cadmium i forbindelse med smeltning og raffinering af metaller eller via luften i industrianl\u00e6g, der fremstiller batterier, overfladebehandlingsmidler eller plast. Der kan ogs\u00e5 opst\u00e5 st\u00f8v og dampe, n\u00e5r forbindelser eller overflader, der indeholder cadmium, opvarmes, eller n\u00e5r arbejdere svejser, sk\u00e6rer eller lodder materialer, der indeholder cadmium. De vigtigste eksponeringsveje er ind\u00e5nding, selvom der kan forekomme utilsigtet indtagelse af st\u00f8v fra forurenede h\u00e6nder. Cadmium og cadmiumforbindelser er klassificeret som carcinogene i kategori 1B i henhold til CLP-forordningen, hvilket betyder, at de kan for\u00e5rsage kr\u00e6ft hos mennesker. Cadmium og cadmiumforbindelser for\u00e5rsager kr\u00e6ft i lungerne, men der er ogs\u00e5 observeret kr\u00e6ft i nyrerne og prostata.    <\/p>\n<h2>Hvor risici opst\u00e5r<\/h2>\n<p>Arbejdere i mange brancher risikerer at blive udsat for cadmium. Risikoen for eksponering er st\u00f8rst blandt arbejdere inden for cadmiumproduktion og -raffinering, fremstilling af Ni-Cd-batterier, galvanisering, pigmentfremstilling og svejsearbejde. De udsatte arbejdere findes hovedsageligt inden for bygge- og anl\u00e6gsvirksomheden, fremstilling af metalprodukter (is\u00e6r batterier), industrier for ikke-jernholdige u\u00e6dle metaller samt fremstilling af plastprodukter som f.eks. vinduesrammer.  <\/p>\n<h2>Mere om stoffet<\/h2>\n<p>Cadmium er et naturligt forekommende grundstof, der findes i jordskorpen. Cadmiummetal har s\u00e6rlige egenskaber som korrosionsbestandighed, lav smeltetemperatur og h\u00f8j termisk og elektrisk ledningsevne. Disse egenskaber g\u00f8r det velegnet til en lang r\u00e6kke industrielle anvendelser. Det bl\u00f8de, lugtfri, s\u00f8lvhvide metal blev f\u00f8rst brugt i malingspigmenter og som erstatning for tin. I dag bruges ca. tre fjerdedele af cadmium som elektrodekomponent i alkaliske batterier. Resten bruges i pigmenter, bel\u00e6gninger, pladebel\u00e6gninger og som stabilisator til plast.     <\/p>\n<p>Der g\u00e6lder en EU-bindende gr\u00e6nsev\u00e6rdi for erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering p\u00e5 0,004 mg\/m\u00b3 (Respirabel) og 0,001 mg\/m\u00b3 (inhalerbart).<\/p>\n<h2>Farer, der kan opst\u00e5<\/h2>\n<p>Uds\u00e6ttelse for cadmium kan for\u00e5rsage irritation af slimhinderne i n\u00e6sen og de \u00f8vre luftveje. Akut eksponering ved ind\u00e5nding (h\u00f8je niveauer over en kort periode) kan resultere i influenzalignende symptomer (kulderystelser, feber og muskelsmerter) og kan skade lungerne. Kronisk eksponering (lavt niveau over l\u00e6ngere tid) kan resultere i nyre-, prostata- og lungesygdomme. De prim\u00e6re og mest alvorlige sundhedsskadelige virkninger af langvarig eksponering for cadmium omfatter nedsat nyrefunktion, lungekr\u00e6ft og prostatakr\u00e6ft.   <\/p>\n<p><strong>Latenstiden mellem eksponering og cadmiumrelateret kr\u00e6ft er ca. 10 \u00e5r.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Hvad du kan g\u00f8re<\/h2>\n<p>Den mest effektive m\u00e5de at forhindre eksponering p\u00e5 er at erstatte produkter med alternativer, der er fri for cadmium eller har en lavere cadmiumkoncentration. Der findes brugbare, mindre giftige alternativer til cadmium til genopladelige batterier (nikkel-metalhydrid), overfladebehandling (zink, dampaflejret aluminium), pigmenter (ceriumsulfid) og plaststabilisatorer. Hvis cadmiumholdige produkter ikke kan erstattes, skal eksponeringen for cadmium reduceres til et minimum gennem tekniske foranstaltninger s\u00e5som lukkede systemer, generel ventilation og effektiv lokal udsugning, hvor der kan forekomme emissioner. Udf\u00f8r regelm\u00e6ssigt repr\u00e6sentative eksponeringsm\u00e5linger, s\u00e5 man ved, hvorn\u00e5r der skal handles. Unders\u00f8g, om de, der arbejder, rapporterer om tidlige symptomer, og inddrag en arbejdsmediciner. Da cadmium er et kumulativt giftstof, er biologisk overv\u00e5gning af cadmium i urinen en god indikator, der underst\u00f8tter eksponeringsvurderingen af den samlede kropsbelastning og udg\u00f8r en egnet parameter til forebyggelse af nyreskader.      S\u00f8rg for, at arbejderne l\u00f8bende g\u00f8res opm\u00e6rksomme p\u00e5 virkningerne af eksponering. De administrative foranstaltninger omfatter blandt andet at begr\u00e6nse den tid, en arbejder bruger p\u00e5 opgaver, der indeb\u00e6rer potentiel eksponering for cadmium. <\/p>\n<p>Derudover skal arbejderne uddannes i risici, sikre arbejdsmetoder og effektive hygiejneforanstaltninger. Dette skal suppleres med personlig beskyttelse, hvis de tekniske foranstaltninger ikke er tilstr\u00e6kkelige til at reducere eksponeringen til under gr\u00e6nsev\u00e6rdierne. Personlig beskyttelse b\u00f8r kun anvendes som en sidste udvej, efter at de mulige tekniske l\u00f8sninger er udt\u00f8mt.
