Organiske koboltsalte er meget effektive som malingst\u00f8rrere, men voksende bekymring for de potentielle farer forbundet med koboltforbindelser har f\u00e5et producenterne til at s\u00f8ge alternative erstatninger.
\nMangant\u00f8rrere udg\u00f8r i \u00f8jeblikket det vigtigste alternativ til kobolt med deres h\u00f8je t\u00f8rreevne, selv om den er lavere end kobolts. Deres st\u00f8rste ulempe er den brune misfarvning og gulfarvning af hvide og lyse malinger. Et alternativt eksempel kunne v\u00e6re manganbis(2-ethylhexanoat), som kan erstatte naphthensyrer, cobaltsalte (cobaltnaphthenat) som t\u00f8rremiddel. Lignende salte (oktoater\/ethylhexanoater, naphthenater) af metaller som jern eller vanadium kan ogs\u00e5 bruges som alternativer. <\/p>\n

Derudover kan t\u00f8rremidler bruges med lavk\u00e6dede alifatiske estere af olie- og linolsyre (ikke klassificeret som giftige eller som VOC) i stedet for almindelige alifatiske eller aromatiske
