Det er et valideret klassifikationssystem, der for hvert stof bestemmer, hvilke kollektive og individuelle beskyttelsesforanstaltninger der skal tr\u00e6ffes. Dette klassificeringssystem er baseret p\u00e5 eksponeringsniveauet, som bestemmes af eksponeringens l\u00e6ngde, stoffets st\u00f8vindhold og dets m\u00e6ngde, og p\u00e5 gr\u00e6nsev\u00e6rdierne for erhvervsm\u00e6ssig eksponering (OEL). Med dette system bestemmer virksomheden systematisk, hvilke beskyttelsesforanstaltninger der skal tr\u00e6ffes for hvilke stoffer, og begr\u00e6nser dermed eksponeringen s\u00e5 meget som muligt.
