En 1990, on estimait que 276 000 travailleurs \u00e9taient expos\u00e9s au TCE, mais les utilisations ont consid\u00e9rablement diminu\u00e9 depuis. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lorsque les travailleurs sont expos\u00e9s au TCE, c&rsquo;est principalement par l&rsquo;inhalation de vapeurs et par contact cutan\u00e9 avec des vapeurs ou des liquides. La substance est class\u00e9e dans le groupe 1 par le CIRC, ce qui signifie qu&rsquo;elle est canc\u00e9rog\u00e8ne pour l&rsquo;homme. Le TCE est class\u00e9 comme canc\u00e9rog\u00e8ne de cat\u00e9gorie 1B selon le r\u00e8glement CLP, ce qui signifie que la substance peut provoquer le cancer chez l&rsquo;homme. Trichlor\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne provoque le cancer du rein et du foie chez l&rsquo;homme. La substance est probablement mutag\u00e8ne et peut provoquer un lymphome non hodgkinien.    <\/p>\n<h2>O\u00f9 se situent les risques ?<\/h2>\n<p>La majorit\u00e9 des expositions au TCE se produisent dans les industries produisant des produits m\u00e9talliques, des machines et des \u00e9quipements de transport. Dans l&rsquo;UE, le TCE ne peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 que pour des usages autoris\u00e9s ou en tant qu&rsquo;interm\u00e9diaire. Il est principalement utilis\u00e9 comme solvant pour enlever la graisse des pi\u00e8ces m\u00e9talliques. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la l\u00e9gislation, le volume global de TCE utilis\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;UE a consid\u00e9rablement diminu\u00e9 au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies.   <\/p>\n<h2>En savoir plus sur la substance<\/h2>\n<p>Le TCE est un alc\u00e8ne halog\u00e9n\u00e9 qui se pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante sous la forme d&rsquo;un liquide clair, incolore ou bleu s&rsquo;\u00e9coulant librement et d\u00e9gageant une odeur agr\u00e9able et sucr\u00e9e. Il est l\u00e9g\u00e8rement soluble dans l&rsquo;eau, soluble dans l&rsquo;\u00e9thanol, l&rsquo;ac\u00e9tone, l&rsquo;\u00e9ther di\u00e9thylique et le chloroforme, et miscible dans l&rsquo;huile. Il est relativement stable s&rsquo;il est inhib\u00e9, mais la lumi\u00e8re du soleil, la chaleur, l&rsquo;air ou l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne et l&rsquo;humidit\u00e9 peuvent acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la r\u00e9action en produits de d\u00e9composition dangereux.<\/p>\n<h2>Dangers pouvant survenir<\/h2>\n<p>Lorsqu&rsquo;il est inhal\u00e9, le TCE peut irriter le nez, les yeux et la gorge et nuire au syst\u00e8me nerveux. Les sympt\u00f4mes peuvent inclure des maux de t\u00eate, des naus\u00e9es, des vertiges, de la somnolence et de la confusion. Une exposition s\u00e9v\u00e8re peut \u00e9galement entra\u00eener une perte de conscience. En cas de contact avec la peau, le produit peut provoquer des douleurs, des rougeurs et un gonflement de la peau. Une exposition prolong\u00e9e peut provoquer un cancer des reins et du foie.    <\/p>\n<p><strong>La p\u00e9riode de latence entre l&rsquo;exposition et le cancer li\u00e9 au TCE varie de 18 \u00e0 34 ans.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Ce que vous pouvez faire<\/h2>\n<p>Le moyen le plus efficace de pr\u00e9venir l&rsquo;exposition est de remplacer le produit par un produit sans TCE ou \u00e0 plus faible concentration de TCE. Ces substituts sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement disponibles et doivent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s. Si les produits contenant du TCE ne peuvent pas \u00eatre remplac\u00e9s et que la poursuite de l&rsquo;utilisation est accord\u00e9e apr\u00e8s une demande d&rsquo;autorisation, l&rsquo;exposition au TCE doit \u00eatre r\u00e9duite par des mesures d&rsquo;ing\u00e9nierie telles que des syst\u00e8mes ferm\u00e9s ou une ventilation. Effectuez p\u00e9riodiquement des mesures repr\u00e9sentatives de l&rsquo;exposition afin de savoir quand des mesures doivent \u00eatre prises. Sensibilisez en permanence les travailleurs aux effets de l&rsquo;exposition et encouragez-les \u00e0 signaler les premiers sympt\u00f4mes.    <\/p>\n<p>En outre, formez les travailleurs aux dangers, aux pratiques de travail s\u00fbres et aux mesures d&rsquo;hygi\u00e8ne efficaces. Compl\u00e9tez ces mesures par des \u00e9quipements de protection individuelle (EPI) lorsque les contr\u00f4les r\u00e9alisables ne suffisent pas \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les expositions en de\u00e7\u00e0 des limites d&rsquo;exposition. L&rsquo;EPI peut comprendre des lunettes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et des v\u00eatements de protection, par exemple des gants, des tabliers et des bottes.
