Les types d \u00ab \u00e9chantillons les plus courants sont le s\u00e9rum, le sang et l&rsquo;urine, mais plusieurs autres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s, principalement dans le cadre de la recherche, notamment la salive, les cheveux, la sueur et l&rsquo;haleine expir\u00e9e. Le type d \u00bb \u00e9chantillon est principalement d\u00e9termin\u00e9 par la substance surveill\u00e9e, mais lorsqu&rsquo;il existe plusieurs options, leur collecte pr\u00e9sente diff\u00e9rents niveaux d&rsquo;invasivit\u00e9 et peut refl\u00e9ter diff\u00e9rentes p\u00e9riodes d&rsquo;exposition. Souvent, la biosurveillance quantifie la substance d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat dans un \u00e9chantillon, mais il est parfois plus appropri\u00e9 de mesurer un produit de biotransformation (m\u00e9tabolite ou produit de r\u00e9action avec l&rsquo;ADN ou une prot\u00e9ine, ce que l&rsquo;on appelle un produit d&rsquo;addition ou adduit). Id\u00e9alement, un bon biomarqueur devrait refl\u00e9ter la dose interne, \u00eatre suffisamment sensible pour d\u00e9tecter des niveaux d&rsquo;exposition pertinents et \u00eatre sp\u00e9cifique \u00e0 une substance individuelle (ou \u00e0 un groupe de substances \u00e9troitement li\u00e9es).    <\/p>\n<p>La surveillance des effets biologiques est la mesure et l&rsquo;\u00e9valuation des effets biologiques pr\u00e9coces caus\u00e9s par l&rsquo;absorption de substances chimiques avant qu&rsquo;une atteinte \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 ne se produise chez les travailleurs expos\u00e9s. Elle implique normalement la mesure des r\u00e9ponses biochimiques - par exemple, la mesure de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 cholinest\u00e9rase plasmatique et \u00e9rythrocytaire chez les travailleurs expos\u00e9s aux pesticides organophosphor\u00e9s ; ou la mesure de l&rsquo;augmentation des prot\u00e9ines urinaires apr\u00e8s une exposition au cadmium. Ces r\u00e9ponses peuvent avoir des implications potentielles pour la sant\u00e9 de l&rsquo;individu et peuvent r\u00e9sulter d&rsquo;une exposition non professionnelle.
