Budu\u0107i da mo\u017ee prodrijeti u ko\u017eu, i udisanje i kontakt s ko\u017eom su relevantni putevi izlo\u017eenosti.<br \/>\n Tvar je klasificirana prema Uredbi EU CLP kao sumnjiva kancerogena za ljude (kategorija 1B). <\/p>\n<h2>Gdje se javljaju rizici<\/h2>\n<p>Profesionalna izlo\u017eenost pirokateholu javlja se uglavnom u kemijskoj i farmaceutskoj proizvodnji, u tehni\u010dkom ispitivanju i analizi te u nekim nizvodnim industrijama kao \u0161to su povr\u0161inska obrada, elektronika, guma i plastika te proizvodnja strojeva.<br \/>\nProfesionalci s najve\u0107im rizikom od izlo\u017eenosti pirokateholu uklju\u010duju operatere kemijskih procesa, operatere destilacije, mije\u0161anja i farmi spremnika, kao i radnike na odr\u017eavanju, laboratorijske tehni\u010dare i analiti\u010dke kemi\u010dare. Radnici u galvanizaciji i radnici uklju\u010deni u povr\u0161insku obradu i proizvodnju elektronike tako\u0111er mogu biti izlo\u017eeni.<br \/>\n Izlo\u017eenost je najvjerojatnija tijekom aktivnosti u kojima se tvar rukuje u otvorenim sustavima ili gdje zadr\u017eavanje nije u potpunosti u\u010dinkovito, kao \u0161to je mije\u0161anje ili blendanje, umakanje, premazivanje ili povr\u0161inska obrada. Dodatna izlo\u017eenost mo\u017ee se pojaviti tijekom odr\u017eavanja i \u010di\u0161\u0107enja.  <\/p>\n<h2>Vi\u0161e o supstanci<\/h2>\n<p>Pirokatehol je \u010dvrsta tvar na sobnoj temperaturi, obi\u010dno izgleda kao bijela do sme\u0111a kristalna krutina koja mo\u017ee potamniti na zraku. Pirokatehol se vrlo dobro otapa u vodi i mnogim organskim otapalima. <\/p>\n<p>Pirokatehol nije lako zapaljiv ili eksplozivan u normalnim uvjetima. Me\u0111utim, mo\u017ee stvarati pra\u0161inu kada se rukuje s njim kao s krustinom i mo\u017ee stvarati aerosole ili pare kada se zagrijava tijekom industrijskih procesa ili kada se koristi u teku\u0107em obliku. <\/p>\n<p>Uglavnom se koristi kao me\u0111uprodukt u proizvodnji drugih tvari i proizvoda. Najve\u0107e kategorije proizvoda za krajnju upotrebu pirokatehola uklju\u010duju agrokemikalije (sredstva za za\u0161titu usjeva), arome i mirise (npr. vanilin, mirisni proizvodi za ku\u0107anstvo), farmaceutske proizvode i aditive za gumu\/polimere za plastiku, gume i gumene proizvode. <\/p>\n<h2>Zdravstveni rizici koji se mogu pojaviti<\/h2>\n<p>Izlo\u017eenost pirokateholu mo\u017ee se dogoditi udisanjem pra\u0161ine ili para te kontaktom s ko\u017eom.<br \/>\nKratkotrajna izlo\u017eenost mo\u017ee dovesti do simptoma poput ka\u0161lja, iritacije grla, iritacije o\u010diju te crvenila ili nelagode ko\u017ee. Vrlo visoka izlo\u017eenost (na primjer, ako se proguta) mo\u017ee rezultirati te\u017eim toksi\u010dnim u\u010dincima. Tako\u0111er mo\u017ee uzrokovati alergijske reakcije ko\u017ee nakon ponovljenog izlaganja.<br \/>\n Dugotrajna izlo\u017eenost mo\u017ee dovesti do ozbiljnijih zdravstvenih problema, uklju\u010duju\u0107i pove\u0107ani rizik od raka, depigmentaciju ko\u017ee, kroni\u010dni dermatitis i respiratorne probleme.  <\/p>\n<h2>\u0160to mo\u017eete u\u010diniti<\/h2>\n<p>Zamjena bi trebala biti prioritet. Gdje je to mogu\u0107e, pirokatehol treba zamijeniti manje opasnim tvarima ili alternativnim procesima koji smanjuju izlo\u017eenost. Mogu\u0107e zamjene za pirokatehol (katehol) ovise o njegovoj ulozi: hidrokinon, rezorcinol i pirogalol mogu ga zamijeniti u nekim sli\u010dnim kemijskim ili redoks primjenama; galna kiselina ili taninska kiselina mogu se koristiti za keliranje metala; a askorbinska kiselina ili natrijev borohidrid ponekad mogu zamijeniti pirokatehol kao redukcijska sredstva. Najbolja alternativa ovisi o specifi\u010dnoj primjeni, budu\u0107i da ovi spojevi imaju razli\u010ditu reaktivnost.   <\/p>\n<p>In\u017eenjerske kontrole su klju\u010dne tamo gdje zamjena nije mogu\u0107a. To uklju\u010duje upotrebu zatvorenih sustava i automatizacije, lokalnu ispu\u0161nu ventilaciju na mjestima emisija i u\u010dinkovitu op\u0107u ventilaciju. Ove mjere poma\u017eu u smanjenju koncentracija para i pra\u0161ine u zraku.<br \/>\n Organizacijske mjere uklju\u010duju ograni\u010davanje trajanja izlo\u017eenosti, pru\u017eanje obuke radnicima (na primjer o rizicima izlo\u017eenosti ko\u017ee), provedbu postupaka sigurnog rukovanja i osiguravanje odgovaraju\u0107ih metoda \u010di\u0161\u0107enja koje minimiziraju stvaranje pra\u0161ine. Preporu\u010duje se redovito pra\u0107enje razina izlo\u017eenosti.   <\/p>\n<p>Osobna za\u0161titna oprema treba se koristiti kao posljednja linija obrane. Posebnu pozornost treba posvetiti sprje\u010davanju kontakta s ko\u017eom zbog sposobnosti tvari da se apsorbira kroz ko\u017eu.
