Er zijn geen schattingen beschikbaar van het huidige aantal werknemers in de EU dat wordt blootgesteld aan 1,2,3-trichloorpropaan (1,2,3-TPC). Inademing wordt beschouwd als de belangrijkste blootstellingsroute, hoewel werknemers ook via huidcontact kunnen worden blootgesteld. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

1,2,3-TPC is ingedeeld in categorie 1B van carcinogenen (volgens de Verordening Classificatie, labeling en verpakking (CLP)), wat betekent dat op basis van dierproeven wordt aangenomen dat de stof carcinogene eigenschappen kan hebben voor de mens.<\/p>\n

Er zijn geen gegevens bij de mens beschikbaar over de vraag of 1,2,3-TCP bij de mens kanker veroorzaakt. Uit dierstudies blijkt dat langdurige blootstelling aan deze stof tumoren kan veroorzaken op verschillende plaatsen, zoals in de mondholte en de voormaag. <\/p>\n

Waar komen risico’s voor?<\/h2>\n

1,2,3-TPC wordt voornamelijk gebruikt als monomeer bij de vervaardiging van polymeren of als tussenproduct bij de productie van andere stoffen (Pesticiden, 2,3-dichloorpropeen, polysulfiden en hexafluorpropyleen). 1,2,3-TCP kan als onzuiverheid in sommige van deze chemische stoffen achterblijven. 1,2,3-TCP wordt in aanzienlijke hoeveelheden geproduceerd als bijproduct bij de vervaardiging van Epichloorhydrine, wanneer chloor aan allylchloride wordt toegevoegd. Dit proces vindt plaats in gesloten systemen.
\nOver het algemeen lijkt de blootstelling op de werkplek beperkt te zijn, aangezien de omgang met deze stoffen onder strikt gecontroleerde omstandigheden plaatsvindt. De belangrijkste activiteit waarbij blootstelling mogelijk is, vindt plaats tijdens handmatige onderhouds- of reinigingswerkzaamheden. <\/p>\n

Meer over de stof<\/h2>\n

In zijn zuivere vorm is 1,2,3-TPC een kleurloze tot gele vloeistof met een beperkte oplosbaarheid in water, een sterke chloroformachtige geur, een matige vluchtigheid en een hoge ontvlambaarheid. Het is een synthetische chemische stof die als gevolg van menselijke activiteiten in het milieu voorkomt.
\nEr wordt momenteel gewerkt aan een EU-brede, bindende grenswaarde voor beroepsmatige blootstelling. <\/p>\n

Gevaren die kunnen optreden<\/h2>\n

De gegevens over acute toxiciteit bij mensen zijn beperkt tot een klein aantal casusverslagen, waarin voornamelijk lever- en neurologische effecten worden beschreven na blootstelling via orale inname of inademing bij hoge, maar over het algemeen niet goed gekwantificeerde doses. Het meest relevante gezondheidseffect van chronische blootstelling aan 1,2,3-TCP is carcinogeniteit. Er zijn geen gegevens bij mensen beschikbaar. Bij proefdieren veroorzaakt 1,2,3-TCP tumoren op meerdere plaatsen en met een hoge incidentie bij zowel muizen als ratten. Aangezien het metabolisme van 1,2,3-TCP kwalitatief vergelijkbaar is in microsomen van mensen en knaagdieren, wordt het als een carcinogeen middel voor de mens beschouwd. <\/p>\n

Wat u kunt doen<\/h2>\n

Op de werkplek is vervanging van 1,2,3-TCP de meest effectieve manier om blootstelling te voorkomen. Wanneer vervanging niet mogelijk is en het gebruik van 1,2,3-TCP niet kan worden vermeden, moeten maatregelen worden genomen om de blootstelling te beperken. <\/p>\n

De meest doeltreffende manier om blootstelling aan 1,2,3-TCP te voorkomen, is het ontwikkelen en gebruiken van gesloten systemen. Wanneer dit niet mogelijk is, moeten technische maatregelen worden genomen, zoals doeltreffende lokale afzuigventilatie, aangevuld met goede algemene ventilatie op de werkplek en regelmatige controles van de doeltreffendheid daarvan, om ervoor te zorgen dat de blootstelling zoveel mogelijk technisch beperkt blijft. <\/p>\n

Voer regelmatig blootstellingsbeoordelingen uit om na te gaan of de getroffen beschermingsmaatregelen doeltreffend zijn of dat er aanvullende maatregelen moeten worden genomen. Werknemers moeten zich bewust zijn van de gevolgen van blootstelling en moeten regelmatig worden getraind in de beheersmaatregelen die nodig zijn om veilig met 1,2,3-TCP te werken en blootstelling te voorkomen. Het wordt aanbevolen om een bedrijfsarts in te schakelen. <\/p>\n

Zorg ervoor dat werknemers over adequate persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen beschikken, zoals beschermende kleding en handschoenen, indien nodig. Persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen mogen niet als enige preventieve maatregel worden gebruikt. Er moeten vooraf zoveel mogelijk van de bovengenoemde technische en organisatorische maatregelen zijn getroffen. Zorg ervoor dat de juiste persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen worden gebruikt, zoals oog- en gezichtsbescherming, handschoenen, beschermende kleding en ademhalingsbescherming. Bovendien moet bij de keuze van de uitrusting rekening worden gehouden met de lichaamsbouw van de werknemers die deze zullen gebruiken en, in het geval van ademhalingsbeschermingsmiddelen die op de gezichtsvorm zijn afgestemd, wordt het ten zeerste aanbevolen om bij elke persoon een pasvormtest uit te voeren. Bovendien moeten alle werknemers worden ge\u00efnstrueerd om hun handen goed te wassen voordat ze pauze nemen of een andere ruimte betreden, en om zich aan het einde van elke dienst te wassen en van kleding te wisselen. <\/p>\n

Persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen mogen alleen als laatste redmiddel worden gebruikt en mogen slechts tijdelijk worden overwogen, nadat alle mogelijke technische oplossingen zijn uitgeput.<\/p>\n
