In een schoenenproductiebedrijf in de regio La Rioja, Spanje, werden twee oplosmiddelen gebruikt voor het looien van leer voor de schoenenproductie. Vervanging werd uitgevoerd omdat verschillende werknemers last hadden van een reeks gezondheidsproblemen, waaronder braken, duizeligheid en hoofdpijn.<\/p>\n

De meest alarmerende symptomen waren epileptische aanvallen bij twee werknemers na 10 uur onafgebroken werken met oplosmiddelen in een looiproces.<\/p>\n

De gevaarlijke producten werden vervangen door een oplosmiddel met als enige schadelijke component aceton. Het bedrijf besloot ook om voorgelooid leer te bestellen om het gebruik van chemische producten te verminderen.
