Traditioneel wordt het biologisch materiaal van de monsters geconserveerd met formaldehyde, dat zowel carcinogenen als sensibilisatoren is. <\/p>\n<h2>Een alternatieve methode<\/h2>\n<p>Een alternatieve methode, gepubliceerd door de Direction Regionale de l&#8217;Environnement (DREN) Lotharingen-Frankrijk, maakt gebruik van minder gevaarlijke middelen. Hierbij worden de monsters ge\u00ebleutrizeerd en wordt een drijvend deel, geconcentreerd in ongewervelde dieren, dat wordt bewaard in ethanol, gescheiden van een gesedimenteerd deel (zand, stenen) dat ter plekke wordt ingevroren. Monsters die te klein zijn om te elutrieren worden volledig in ethanol bewaard, monsters die niet ge\u00ebluutrieerd kunnen worden (slib) worden volledig ingevroren.
