Arbeidshygi\u00ebnist Erik van Deurssen heeft een multidimensionale interventie ontwikkeld om de blootstelling aan kwarts in de bouw te verminderen. Het doel van deze interventie is om het gebruik van technische controlemaatregelen te vergroten en het gedrag van werknemers en organisatorische factoren te veranderen. De interventie heeft geleid tot een vermindering van de blootstelling aan kwarts en Van Deurssen heeft de Thomas Bedford Memorial Prize van de BHOS ontvangen voor zijn promotieonderzoek op dit gebied. <\/p>\n

Instelling en probleem<\/u><\/h2>\n

Alle werknemers in de bouw worden blootgesteld aan stof. Blootstelling aan kwartsstof is bijzonder slecht voor de gezondheid, omdat het de longen onherstelbaar beschadigt en kan leiden tot chronische ademhalingsziekten of kanker. Veel interventies op dit gebied richten zich op technische oplossingen om de blootstelling aan kwarts te verminderen of te voorkomen. Deze interventies houden geen rekening met het gedrag van werknemers of met organisatorische factoren. Het is echter bekend dat deze aspecten de doeltreffendheid van technische controlemaatregelen in grote mate be\u00efnvloeden. Daarom is een multidimensionale interventie nodig die rekening houdt met technische, gedrags- en organisatorische factoren. <\/p>\n

Oplossing<\/u><\/h2>\n

De interventie bestaat uit verschillende persoonlijke sessies:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Plenaire sessies voor bouwvakkers en managers om hen te informeren over de gezondheidsrisico’s van blootstelling aan kwarts en om de belangrijkste obstakels bij het gebruik van technische controlemaatregelen aan te pakken.<\/li>\n
  • Een sessie voor bouwvakkers op de bouwplaats om hen te leren hoe ze bepaalde technische controlemaatregelen in de praktijk moeten gebruiken.<\/li>\n
  • Een sessie voor managers om hen te informeren over de nieuwste technische controlemaatregelen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Resultaten<\/u><\/h2>\n

    De interventie was succesvol: er werden positieve gedragsveranderingen waargenomen, technische controlemaatregelen werden vaker gebruikt en bijgevolg werd de blootstelling aan kwarts verminderd. De interventie werd positief ge\u00ebvalueerd door de gebruikers. Suggesties voor verbetering zijn om \u00e9\u00e9n verplichte sessie te organiseren in plaats van meerdere sessies en om zoveel mogelijk gebruik te maken van (audio)visuele technieken voor informatieoverdracht, aangezien bouwvakkers over het algemeen lager opgeleid zijn. <\/p>\n

    Geleerde lessen<\/u><\/h2>\n

    • Interventies die gericht zijn op het verminderen van de blootstelling aan carcinogenen zijn het meest effectief als ze niet alleen gericht zijn op de technische kant, maar ook op gedrags- en organisatorische factoren, omdat die een belangrijke invloed hebben op de doeltreffendheid van het gebruik van technische controlemaatregelen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Bij het onderwijzen van werknemers over de gevolgen voor de gezondheid van blootstelling aan carcinogenen is het gebruik van (audio)visuele technieken belangrijk omdat werknemers over het algemeen lager opgeleid
