Medisch-technisch assistenten, die gespecialiseerd zijn in het bestuderen van de microscopische structuur van weefsels, werken vaak met verschillende gevaarlijke stoffen. Deze stoffen worden gebruikt bij het prepareren, kleuren en conserveren van weefsel en kunnen aanzienlijke gezondheidsrisico’s met zich meebrengen als de juiste veiligheidsprotocollen niet worden gevolgd. <\/p>\n

Naast het kankerverwekkende ethyleenoxide dat gebruikt kan worden voor desinfectie of decontaminatie, wordt formaldehyde voornamelijk gebruikt voor weefselfixatie in de histopathologie, wat irritatie aan de ogen, huid en luchtwegen kan veroorzaken. Chronische blootstelling kan leiden tot ernstigere gezondheidsproblemen, waaronder kanker. Sommige chemicali\u00ebn die worden gebruikt voor het verven, kleuren en fixeren zijn kankerverwekkend of giftig als ze worden ingeslikt, ingeademd of in contact komen met de huid. <\/p>\n

Het is van het grootste belang om v\u00f3\u00f3r aanvang van de werkzaamheden een grondige risicobeoordeling uit te voeren om mogelijke gevaren te identificeren. Om gevaarlijke dampen en rook in te dampen en te ventileren, moet een zuurkast worden gebruikt en daarnaast is voldoende luchtverversing in laboratoria vereist. Er moet regelmatig worden getraind in het omgaan met gevaarlijke stoffen en het op de juiste manier hanteren en afvoeren van biologische materialen. Veilige werkpraktijken zijn onder andere ervoor zorgen dat alle chemicali\u00ebn en monsters naar behoren ge\u00ebtiketteerd zijn met informatie over de gevaren. Regelmatige gezondheidscontroles om te controleren op tekenen van blootstellingsgerelateerde ziekten worden ook aanbevolen. <\/p>\n

Door deze veiligheidsmaatregelen te begrijpen en toe te passen, kunnen medisch-technisch assistenten de risico’s beperken die gepaard gaan met blootstelling aan gevaarlijke stoffen in hun werkomgeving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
