In heel Europa worden echter naar schatting 36 miljoen werknemers blootgesteld aan natuurlijke ultraviolette straling (UVR) van de zon en ongeveer 1 miljoen aan UVR van kunstmatige bronnen. Blootstelling aan UVR heeft vooral invloed op de huid en de ogen. Zowel zonne- als kunstmatige UV-straling zijn nu geclassificeerd als kankerverwekkend voor mensen (IARC groep 1).   <\/p>\n<h2>Wat u kunt doen<\/h2>\n<p>Met betrekking tot UVR van de zon is het niet mogelijk om de risicobron (de zon) te vervangen. Als het echter de bedoeling is om kunstmatige UVR te gebruiken of als dit onbedoeld gebeurt, moet vooraf een controle op Substitutie worden uitgevoerd. <\/p>\n<p>In principe biedt een redelijke combinatie van technische, organisatorische en persoonlijke maatregelen de beste bescherming tegen UV-straling.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Technische maatregelen<\/strong> omvatten alle vormen van afscherming en zonwering, bijv. luifels op vaste werkplekken en zonneschermen op niet vaste werkplekken buitenshuis.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organisatorische maatregelen<\/strong> zijn erop gericht om de duur van de blootstelling te verminderen. Deze omvatten bijvoorbeeld het verplaatsen van werkactiviteiten naar schaduwrijke of afgeschermde plaatsen die slechts in geringe mate of helemaal niet worden blootgesteld, en het verschuiven van de werktijd naar vroeger in de ochtend en later op de avond (voor werk buitenshuis). Het verdelen van werkactiviteiten over verschillende werknemers en het beperken van de toegang tot aan UVR blootgestelde werkplekken binnenshuis door middel van borden of etiketten zijn ook voorbeelden van organisatorische maatregelen.  <\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal measures<\/strong> such as a headgear with a wide brim and a neck protection, safety goggles (sunglasses or specifically designed protective eyewear for artificial UVR), face shields and visors, as well as clothing and gloves that cover the whole body are often compulsory.
