PAH er klassifisert som kreftfremkallende stoffer i gruppe 1 av IARC, noe som betyr at de anses som en p\u00e5vist \u00e5rsak til kreft. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mange PAH-forbindelser er klassifisert som kreftfremkallende stoffer i kategori 1A eller 1B i henhold til Klassifisering, merking og emballering av stoffer (CLP), noe som betyr at stoffene med sikkerhet for\u00e5rsaker kreft eller kan for\u00e5rsake kreft hos mennesker. PAH-forbindelser kan svelges, inhaleres eller i noen tilfeller tas opp gjennom huden. Langvarig eksponering kan f\u00f8re til lungekreft og hudkreft.  <\/p>\n<h2>Hvor risiko oppst\u00e5r<\/h2>\n<p>Workers in industries or trades using or producing coal or coal products have the highest risk for exposure to PAH. This includes, among others, asphalt workers, workers in the coal gas industry, fishermen (coal tar on nets), workers who produce graphite electrodes, mechanics (cars and diesel engines), road workers (asphalting), and workers in tire and rubber production. I tillegg er brannkonstabelarbeid, avfallsforbrenning, r\u00f8ykhus, matlaging, krematorier, skorsteinsfeiing, trebeskyttelse og jordrensing forbundet med utilsiktet dannelse av PAH-er.  <\/p>\n<h2>Mer om stoffet<\/h2>\n<p>PAH-forbindelser er en gruppe av mange kjemikalier som forekommer naturlig i kull, r\u00e5olje og bensin. De dannes ogs\u00e5 ved prosesser ved h\u00f8ye temperaturer som skyldes ufullstendig forbrenning eller pyrolyse av organiske materialer som kull, olje, gass, tre, avfall og tobakk. PAH-forbindelser som dannes fra disse kildene, kan binde seg til eller danne sm\u00e5 partikler i luften. Matlaging ved h\u00f8ye temperaturer vil danne PAH-er i kj\u00f8tt og andre matvarer. Sigarettr\u00f8yk inneholder mange PAH-er.    <\/p>\n<h2>Farer som kan oppst\u00e5<\/h2>\n<p>PAH-forbindelser har lav akutt toksisitet. Akutte effekter som tilskrives eksponering for PAH-forbindelser, skyldes sannsynligvis andre stoffer. Langvarig yrkesmessig eksponering for PAH-forbindelser kan p\u00e5virke flere av kroppens systemer. Det kan p\u00e5virke luftveiene (redusert lungefunksjon, brystsmerter, irritasjon av luftveiene og lungekreft), mage-tarm-systemet (inkludert kreft i mage-tarm-systemet), huden (forbrenninger og vorter p\u00e5 solutsatte omr\u00e5der som kan utvikle seg til kreft) og \u00f8ynene (\u00f8yeirritasjon). Det kan ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6re en \u00e5rsak til andre typer kreft, som leukemi, lever- og bl\u00e6rekreft.    <\/p>\n<p><strong>Latensperioden mellom eksponering og kreft forbundet med polycykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH) varierer fra 5 til 20 \u00e5r, avhengig av krefttypen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Hva du kan gj\u00f8re<\/h2>\n<p>Den beste l\u00f8sningen er \u00e5 begrense eksponeringen ved \u00e5 eliminere eller erstatte stoffet. Siden PAH-er stammer fra forbrenningsprosesser, er det imidlertid ikke enkelt \u00e5 eliminere eller erstatte dette stoffet. R\u00f8ykutviklingen b\u00f8r minimeres s\u00e5 n\u00e6r kilden som mulig ved \u00e5 omorganisere arbeidsoppgavene og vurdere teknikker og materialer p\u00e5 nytt, for eksempel ved bruk av en sveiseapparat med avtrekk. Hvis det ikke fungerer, b\u00f8r utslippet kontrolleres i umiddelbar n\u00e6rhet av kilden, for eksempel ved \u00e5 bruke lokale avtrekksventilasjonssystemer. Utf\u00f8r regelmessige representative eksponeringsm\u00e5linger slik at man vet n\u00e5r og hvor ytterligere risikoreduserende tiltak b\u00f8r iverksettes.    <\/p>\n<p>S\u00f8rg for at arbeidstakerne hele tiden er klar over virkningene av eksponering, og oppfordre dem til \u00e5 melde fra om tidlige symptomer. Personlig verneutstyr (PVU) b\u00f8r kun brukes som en siste utvei, etter at mulige tekniske l\u00f8sninger er utt\u00f8mt. Hvis det brukes, m\u00e5 du s\u00f8rge for at riktig PVU er tilgjengelig.
