Organiske koboltsalter er sv\u00e6rt effektive som t\u00f8rkemidler for maling, men den \u00f8kende bekymringen for de potensielle farene forbundet med koboltforbindelser har f\u00e5tt produsentene til \u00e5 se seg om etter alternativer.
\nMangant\u00f8rkere er i dag det viktigste alternativet til kobolt, med sin h\u00f8ye t\u00f8rkeeffekt, selv om den er lavere enn kobolts. Den st\u00f8rste ulempen er brun misfarging og gulfarging av hvite og lyse malinger. Mangan gir lengre t\u00f8rketid, men bedre filmhardhet sammenlignet med koboltbaserte t\u00f8rkemidler. <\/p>\n

Et alternativt eksempel kan v\u00e6re manganbis(2-etylheksanoat), som kan erstatte naftensyrer, koboltsalter (koboltnaftenat) som t\u00f8rkemiddel. Lignende salter (oktoater\/etylheksanoater, naftenater) av metaller som jern eller vanadium kan ogs\u00e5 brukes som alternativer. <\/p>\n

I tillegg kan t\u00f8rkemidler brukes med lavkjedede alifatiske estere av oljesyre og linolsyre (ikke klassifisert som giftige eller som VOC) i stedet for vanlige alifatiske eller aromatiske
