Strādā vesels, the Latvian organisation for occupational safety and health, has developed self-tests for employees to test their knowledge on carcinogens, asbestos, dust and other topics related to occupational safety and health in order to raise awareness about these issues.
Setting and problem
People working in construction, manufacturing and many other sectors work with carcinogens, asbestos and dust on a daily basis. However, they are often not fully aware of what working with these substances entails. They lack knowledge on which substances are dangerous, on how to work with them and on the health issues to which exposure could lead. Because of this, precautionary measures are sometimes not taken or not taken seriously and exposure levels are higher than they need to be.
Solution
In order to raise awareness, the Latvian organisation for occupation safety and health, Strādā vesels, has developed self-tests for employees to test their knowledge about working with carcinogens, asbestos and dust. At each question, additional information is provided so that people can increase their knowledge. Reading this information is stimulated, because the scores of individuals are compared to the Latvian average. These interactive self-tests are a nice way to raise awareness among employees about working with carcinogens, asbestos and dust.
