Layer ventilation to reduce exposure with welding of large stainless steel workpieces

Layer ventilation to reduce exposure with welding of large stainless steel workpieces

Type of measure: Technical, Personal protection

Welding of large workpieces, such as tanks and silos, makes it difficult and often impossible to use local exhaust ventilation.

Kremsmüller Industrieanlagenbau KG combined layer ventilation with PPE for the welders as a good solution to reduce the number of exposed workers. Layer ventilation is a general ventilation consisting of pipes for the supply air on the ground and pipes for the exhaust air under the workshop roof. This special design creates a vertical flow that carries welding fumes directly upwards. Due to the localized exposure welders must use PPE to protect them against the welding fumes.Properly designed layer ventilation is a good option to prevent other workers in the workshop against welding fumes.
