The Occupational Hygiene Risk Management (OHRM) tool and guidance

Type of measure: Organizational

Setting and problem

In the ideal world, hazardous or dangerous substances should not be used at work. However, it is the combination of hazard and exposure that determines the final risk. Nouryon is therefore evaluating the hazards and potential exposure of all chemicals used at the workplace.

Solution

Nouryon have developed a tool named the “Occupational Hygiene Risk Management” (OHRM) System. The tool helps to assess and manage the risks imposed on employees and contractors on site from inhalation exposure to chemicals. It does this by taking you through 4 steps.

  1. Hazard Assessment
  2. Exposure assessment
  3. Risk assessment and risk management (control strategy)
  4. Monitor effectiveness of control strategies (closing the loop)

The key purpose of this tool is to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
